The psyche is the world's pivot. - C. G. Jung

Depth Inquiry for Psyche and Soma

The Work is an approach to healing that engages both Psyche (meaning soul) and Soma (meaning body) as real, as Thou, remembering soul in the heart of the world - indeed, within matter itself. Both Psyche and Soma contain personal, collective, and transpersonal processes that are conscious and unconscious. Psyche and Soma hold our dreams, our pathologies, and our wholeness. In this fast-paced, high-tech culture, our imaginal and dream life may be neglected, often to our peril.  Depth Inquiry offers an opportunity to reconnect with what is alive under the surface and beyond the tangible, while also honoring the practical demands of everyday life. Re-discovering the neglected parts of one's self that may not be within one's conscious awareness, listening to somatic and psychological symptoms, accessing and applying the realm of the imaginal - both in waking and dreaming life, and consciously engaging with the alchemical process of  transformation are the work of depth psychotherapy.

Jung developed a way of working with dreams and the imaginal that accesses this wisdom, reconnecting an individual with real inner help to compensate for blind spots in one's conscious approach to life. Getting in touch with these aspects of one's self, learning about them, and integrating them within the larger sphere of the whole self can be life changing and liberating. Dreamwork, dialogue, and active imagination through movement, sandplay, and the arts can help to access and work with what emerges from one's depths.

Engaging in such a process is committing to one's own individuation and evolution. Regular meetings together over a period of time help support such a process.

Some people may not feel ready or able to commit to a long term process with a psychotherapist - so I also offer the option of a short term, focused process of working together. One or two sessions may offer help with a particular issue or a jump-start to your own process of inquiry.

I utilize somatic and creative approaches such as movement, expressive arts, and sandplay - integrating them into the therapeutic or personal inquiry process. These modalities facilitate direct access to the imagination, the unconscious (material that is unknown to the person, or challenging to put into words), and the physical body (including symptoms and illnesses). The intent behind using these modalities is to offer an approach to psychotherapy and personal inquiry that is more holistic than verbal methods alone, while also being effective and empowering.
